Targeted Oil Debris Cleaning
Regularly flush the excavator’s engine compartment and hydraulic pump areas with specialized cleaners weekly to eliminate leaks and spills. Oil residues have low flash points, posing ignition risks from sparks or electrical shorts.
Surface Contaminant Removal
Remove oil sludge, metal shavings, and debris from the body to prevent combustibles from igniting due to short circuits. Keep the excavator dry and tidy.
Debris Management Protocols
Prohibit storing rags, tools, or flammable materials on the excavator’s cab or engine cover. Smokers must use dedicated ashtrays to prevent unextinguished cigarette butts from contacting oil residues.
Electrical & Fuel System Inspections
Weekly check battery terminals for looseness and fuel lines for aging/leaks. Replace damaged wiring immediately to eliminate short-circuit risks.
Extinguisher Selection Criteria
Equip excavators with 6-10L dry powder fire extinguishers, mounted in easily accessible cab locations. Verify pressure gauges monthly to ensure they remain in the green zone.
Firefighting Action Steps
In case of initial fires, shut down the excavator and cut power immediately. Aim the extinguisher at the base of the flames. Evacuate and call emergency services if flames spread.
During summer operations, allow excavators to idle for cooling every 2 hours to prevent hydraulic system overheating. Clean radiator surfaces regularly to avoid heat buildup causing wiring degradation.
